The Saskatchewan Organic Directorate (SOD) and Organic Alberta launched the Saskatchewan - Alberta Organic Producers’ Directory in September 2009.
The objective of the directory is to increase market access for organic growers by enabling buyers to search for organic products by town, region, product, or the producer/farm name. It also connects organic growers who may be looking for custom services, organic certified seed, and finding other growers who have experience with growing new or different crops.
For consumers, three new directories were developed in 2010 with financial support from the go Green, Government of Saskatchewan Fund. These local organic directories are found by scrolling down our homepage to SOD’s Food Miles Campaign (FMC) link and then clicking on Saskatchewan consumers and the Food Miles Campaign. Resources include:
FMC Retail Directory – a collection of businesses that carry organic products
FMC Restaurant Directory – a list of restaurants committed to serving local organic food
FMC Value Added, Retail Ready, Direct to Consumer Directory of Producers/Processors
Alanna Hoesgen will also be working with SOD in the creation of a monthly update that will be circulated regularly through email. The update will include information and upcoming events which are of interest to organic producers in Saskatchewan (please contact the SOD office to have your events included). These monthly updates, as well as the organic directory, are available to everyone. You can subscribe to the email update by scrolling down SOD’s home page to Organic News You Can Use and adding your email address. All SOD members who shared their email address have already been included.
